스페이스 비엠 에서는 이번 싱가포르 컨탬포러리 아트 쇼 2016 가 열리는 싱가폴 썬텍빌딩에서 장승효 작가와 함께하게 되었습니다.
장승효작가의 개인전 처럼 느껴질 만큼 아주 화려하고 웅장한 , 정말 한국을 대표한다고 느낄만큼의 전시를 했습니다.
1. b07 부스 이외의 이벤트부스로 샹들리에와 체스판을 연상시키는 작품 , 그리고
세상에서 제일 큰 LED 모니터를 갖춘 썬텍빌딩의 전면에서 아트페어의 시작과 함께 영상을 상영하였고 ,
아트페어가 열리는 입구 앞에서도 5 M X 5 M 가 넘는 대형 모니터에 상영되었습니다.
스페이스비엠 갤러리는 항상
동시에 열리는 마리나베이샌즈에서 싱가폴 아트스테이지에 참여했지만
이번 만큼은 새롭게 열리는 아트페어를 선택 , 정말 기대가 많았었습니다.

In Suntec
building where Singapore Contemporary Art Show 2016 was held, Space BM
represented Jang Seunghyo. His works were extremely splendid and majestic that
it almost felt like his personal exhibition, and it was grand enough to be
representative of Korea.

Other
than the B07 booth, artworks resembling chandelier and chessboard were shown at
the event booth. Furthermore, our video was displayed on the world’s largest
LED monitor at the front of the Suntec building as the art fair commenced as
well as on the large screen exceeding 5m*5m at the entrance of the art fair.
Space BM gallery always took part in
Singapore Art Stage held in Marina Bay Sands concurrently, but this time we
chose the newly opened art fair with great anticipation.

Artist Biography
Jang Seunghyo (b.1971) received his B.F.A and M.F.A. in Sculpture from Hongik University. He then graduated with a M.F.A. in Sculpture from New York University in New York City. Jang Seunghyo is best known for his active collaborations with figures outside of the fine arts world. He produced an art car with Mitsuoka, for example, along with joint projects with designer Lie Sang Bong for the 2015 S/S New York Fashion Week. The vast output of his works are photo-collaged sculptures consist of highly calculated photographs of his daily experiences. His work, as a result, invites the viewer to a form of voyeurism into his personal memories and fantasies.
Art statement
'Art Blossom' is a blend of numerous fragments of plastic and photographs metamorphosed into a hybrid which represents Jang Seunghyo's private memories and fantasies from his earlier life. Jang's work transforms a two-dimensional into a three-dimensional array to construct spiritual notions of self-identification. His process of collecting images is reminiscent of recollecting memories. According to the artist, the accumulation of multi-layered images is in reality "a performance dedicated to visualize affection toward female." Jang portrays flowers as a symbol of beauty or fertility from which he wishes to create a world filled with symbolisms. No fixed position or definite explanations are compulsory in his quasi-sculptural installation. Instead the artist enjoys the tension between individuality and collectiveness, two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality and the contradictory qualities combining photography and sculpture. The tension provides plenty of dynamics to his sculpture and flat panels creating various forms of identity. Ultimately, his new identity appears to be reaching nowhere, yet it actually brings us to many different locations at once.
